Section 1 - Background behind the initial idea to trigger the launch of The Miranda Brawn Diversity Leadership Foundation (TMBDLF) which started way back in 2006:
The Miranda Brawn Diversity Leadership Foundation ("TMBDLF") is the sole brainchild idea of Prof Miranda Brawn who is also the Founder, President and Chair of the Board of Trustees.
This concept had originally occurred to Miranda more than twenty years ago in 2006 when she had discovered a gap in the Charity sector. This was regarding her innovative idea to launch her "education to workplace" scholarship programme, focused on diversity leadership and the delivery of annual diversity leadership lecture events.
She was the chair of a diverse network resource group for a top global US investment bank at the time and was focused on her career progression. Once she had achieved her own personal career goals, she was in a strong position to have the required time to give back in a more direct way and help others beyond her motivational talks, mentoring, advice and media interviews.
Hence, Miranda officially launched TMBDLF ten years later - on 4 January 2016. Thereafter, she invited TMBDLF's team including its patrons, trustees, advisors and volunteers during 2016 after she had successfully launched the Charity to join her on TMBDLF's innovative mission to help our next generation of leaders.
The inspiration behind her idea to launch this Charity came from her own years of successfully progressing to senior levels within the corporate sector as an investment banker, hedge fund sales trader and senior corporate lawyer with a simple wish to help others from a diverse background to achieve similar levels of success.
The initial funding came from large global organisations who supported Miranda's innovative idea of launching the scholarship programme. This had also made headline news across UK's primetime news channels and media publications during the same week and months ahead.
There was no one else who had offered a similar platform in the past which included a scholarship beyond the usual funding. This led to TMBDLF being the first inspiration for many others to follow from leading individuals to global organisations who have since launched similar scholarships and charities to help our next generation of leaders.
The Miranda Brawn Diversity Leadership Scholarship is a highly competitive award which was designed by Prof Miranda Brawn to initially support the next generation of UK leaders from Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and underrepresented backgrounds. It was launched following the lack of support for students from these backgrounds at the time of the launch. The main focus was on "gender" and pipeline issues across the workplace. Miranda had decided to bravely lead in this area starting with race diversity starting across the corporate workplace.
The first "Miranda Brawn Diversity Leadership Annual Lecture" covered all diversity strands including disability, LGBTQ+, age, faith, religion, gender, social mobility with a panel of senior diverse leaders sharing their own insights and advice. This was alongside Miranda's first diversity leadership lecture which made UK history. After receiving constructive feedback from travellers, gypsies and white working-class students who wanted to be included within the scholarship application process during the first year, Miranda decided to open the scholarships to students from ALL backgrounds and races for a truly equal experience from 2017.
The late Dame Jocelyn Barrow was the first Patron for TMBDLF after its launch from February 2016 until the time of her sad passing in 2020. She was part of the initial judging panel to judge the first set of the Miranda Brawn Diversity Leadership Scholarships. She had been a British educator, community activist and politician, who was part of the advisory group who had been instrumental for the launch of the Race Relations Act of 1968. Dame Barrow had shared publicly in her keynote address at the first lecture event that she "was very proud to be part of The Miranda Brawn Diversity Leadership Foundation and to be its first Patron."
Dame Barrow had also added that during her work spanning nearly 70 years, she was "very excited about Miranda Brawn's innovative idea to launch The Miranda Brawn Diversity Leadership Foundation, including the first (of its kind) educational multi-sector scholarships and diversity leadership annual lectures. The lectures did not focus on just talking but led with key ‘action’ points to create meaningful change for everyone from all backgrounds."
Our Founder who is the brainchild and motivational inspiration behind TMBDLF, Prof Miranda Brawn, had also personally invited our second TMBDLF Patron, Dame Fiona Woolf, to join TMBDLF after Miranda had launched the charity. Fiona had first learned about the idea of TMBDLF's mission and purpose at the time of her invitation in April 2016. Thereafter, Miranda and Fiona have exchanged notes over the years about their own leadership experiences around DE&I. She had been the second female Lord Mayor of London (from 2013 to 2014), former President of The Law Society, former Chancellor of the University of Law and a former Partner at CMS.
Dame Fiona Woolf had also publicly shared that she "was not aware of anyone else like Miranda Brawn who had launched an innovative charity like TMBDLF while helping the next generation of diverse leaders at such a young age."

This was supported thereafter by University of Roehampton and University of East London. As seen on Bloomberg Television and launched at UK House of Lords on 16 October 2026 and relaunched at the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG)'s Headquarters during their Market Closing Ceremony on 16 March 2026.
Thereafter, boardroom roundtable discussions have taken place between March to July 2026 with global board members. These have been hosted by London Stock Exchange Group, Lord Mervyn Davies at LetterOne’s Mayfair office on Governance, House of Commons on Inclusion and Deloitte on Sustainability. The outcome and impact have resulted in an updated summary of 15 key recommendations as of July 2026 presented to the UK Government, Cabinet Office and other organisations in late 2026.

These consistent downloads alone would help with TMBDLF's strategic impactful goal of supporting ‘1 Million Young People’ by 2035 to achieve their own form of educational and career success.
The D.A.R.E. Podcast initially partnered with City AM (Business Newspaper) from March 2024 to July 2024 during Seasons 1 & 2 with 12 million global users.
Researched and published 'The Brawn Review on Boardroom Sustainability, Inclusion and Governance' (SIG) while proposing the recommendation to rename "ESG" to the modern version of "SIG". This research report was led and written by Founder Prof Miranda Brawn while she was invited to be a resident visiting fellow at the University of Oxford in 2022 to 2023. This was the world's number one university at the time.
This innovative piece of research includes 50 recommendations for "ACTION" from more than 1,000 boardrooms across 24 sectors around the world with the majority of global leaders based in the UK.
It has also included a summary page in Section 1 of the review highlighting TMBDLF's 10 years of national and international impact helping our next generation as part of the 10-years celebrations.
The report was launched in 2025 at the House of Lords with follow up boardroom roundtable discussions during 2026 in some of the UK's most elite venues such as House of Commons, London Stock Exchange, Deloitte and Lord Mervyn Davies’s LetterOne Mayfair office.
The impact and result of these successful discussions have led to 15 recommended actions across sustainability, inclusion and governance to be presented to the UK Government, Cabinet Office and other organisations in late 2026. This is to help change the face of the global boardrooms and their organisations on a "global" basis starting with the UK. The aim is to move the needle beyond the historic "talk shop" that have led to little or any action.
TWO International TEDx Talks both in Italy to a live audience of 1000+ guests for each TED Talk. The first TEDx Talk was in December 2018 on 'The Miranda Brawn Diversity Leadership Foundation' called "Together close the diversity gap in 2 steps!" The second TEDx Talk was in May 2024 on The D.A.R.E. Podcast's Successful Mindset framework backed by TMBDLF called "D.A.R.E. to Draw the Life You Want: Art of Visualisation and Success."
Made UK history in 2016 for being the first of its kind in terms of being a (i) diversity leadership educational charity bridging the gap from the classroom to the workplace and (ii) launching the UK's first diversity leadership lecture aimed at schoolchildren. This also led to winning awards for TMBDLF's national and international impact including one award from the UK Prime Minister in 2016 for the UK history making annual lecture to raise the profile of this important work and mission.
TMBDLF is celebrating its 11th year of 'The Miranda Brawn Diversity Leadership Annual Lecture' events on 8 September 2026 at a global law firm. The first TMBDLF annual lecture event was held on 16 October 2016.
